lineage practice.
on transmitted embodiments.
i first learned lineage practice in my hatha yoga training at RootEd, where my teacher Jessica Patterson talked about the practice of naming who has taught us what we know. this sacred practice to me has roots in the tradition of teacher/guru in the Vedic tradition, where a guru is someone who imparts not just rational knowledge but an embodied and energetic experience of embodiment. when you invoke the name of the one who has passed on that embodied energetic experience, you also call up the experience and the entire embodied lineage of that experience. it is at once a sacred act of honoring who has transmitted their somatic shape (Staci Haines/generative somatics) to you, and a continual invocation and transmission of that somatic shape.
